my truck has a 3spd automatic trans in it and i'm wanting to replace it with an auto with overdrive, what other automatics with overdrive will bolt up to the 6.9 diesel? i'm really wanting to replace the 6.9 with the 7.3 turbo powerstroke but i know that it will be a long time before i can come up with the money for that task.

you should be able to go to an aod if you really want to, but for the trouble and money converting, have you considered an underdrive/overdive unit that mounts to your transfer case? It only works for the rear, but that's all you need it for, right?

Technically speaking the only overdrive that Ford made for the diesel's here was the E4OD...
The AOD was installed in lighter torque motors...
Didn't want the guy looking for an aod.
The E4OD is suspect enough....
Stay with the C6 like fellro86 said and add the overdrive to it.
