Question timing on a 4.9L ?

I have a 92 f-150 with a 4.9L. I just got done rebuilding another engine to put in it. I was just wandering how to set the timing when I put it in the truck, I already stabbed the distributer, but I never set the timing on a fuel injected engine before, someone told me I have to put a jumper in a plug somewhere, when I am timing it up, is this true. any help would be greatly appreciated

You need to remove the SPOUT connector before timing your engine. If you still have the timing sticker on the underside of your hood it will give you the rundown. You might need to look around a bit, on my 302 it's relatively close to the distributor, not sure on your engine. Someone with a 300 should have better intructions.

On my 1990 4.9L, the jumper is very close to the ignition coil in the wiring harness. It's a little gray/black thing and you pull out the center part of it to disconnect the SPout, reinsert it when you're done with the timing.

I own a 92 4.9L as well. The SPOUT connector on my truck is on the wiring harness on the drivers side inside fender, just below the hood hinge. You may see an electronic module mounted on a heatsink bolted to the inside fender, just below that you should see a plastic connector with a shorting plug inserted into it and taped to the harness. Pull that plug( SPOUT shorting plug) out of the connector and set the timing to 10 degrees BTDC. You will adjust the timing by turning the distributer.
