I've noticed that i have a leak of pretty good quantity coming from the driver's side. It looks like it's coming from either the P/S pump or maybe the steering box. To my knowledge there is not red fluid in the steering box. I know it's not from the trans lines.
There is a hose coming from the p/s pump that moves a bit. Looking at the pump from the front fender, it sits directly under the p/s filler cap. I tried tightening it up some, but the nut didn't move. I can swivel the hose a little.
I can't really tell where the fluid is coming from because the whole driver's side compt is covered.
Any ideas?! I'm thinking that the hose needs to be replaced. I'm going to clean it off this weekend to try to find it.
I had the same thing happen recently and here's what I did. Steam clean the whole area and drive it around. It turned out I was leaking from the gear box seal and running down the pitman arm. The gearbox runs abou $150. All you can really do is clean and check. Hope this helps.
BTW, the p/s pump circulates p/s fluid though the gearbox so there is p/s fluid running through the entire system.
