Angry stop scratching my truck!!

A few weeks ago I brought my truck back to the dealer to fix a rattle in my back window. It's fixed (yeah!) but they left a 6" scratch on the back of my cab. After I noticed it the dealer said they would fix it by either touching it up or taking the bed off and back window out and repainting the back of the cab. Since neither I or the service manager were comfortable with the latter option I had them touch it up. I get it back today and it's now you can clearly see where they patched it plus there's a new 12+" scratch right above it and the rubber around the window is roughed up. I'm furious I'm calling them back tonight to see what they will do about it.

What do you guys think? Even the service manager didn't like the idea of taking the bed off because "once you start taking things off you might start causing other problems." I want the scratch fixed but I don't want to keep taking the truck back.

UNBELIEVABLE! What kinda hacks are they hiring at that dealership? They would probably scratch the h#ll outta your bed if they removed it.

How many miles are on the truck? I'd have to insist on replacing the truck. Probably wouldn't do it but I'd try anyway.

You're right to not want the bed removed but even if they respray the back of the cab there's no garauntee that the paint will hold up. I had a dealership respray the doors on a used car I was buying because there were deep scratches around the door locks. Two years later the paint was pulling up off the doors like a sheet of wallpaper.

I agree, you shouldn't have to deal with that. Maybe insurance could pay for a trip to a body shop or something (?)

Raise hell, tell them to fix it the best they can without removing the bed, and tell them you also want a 6 year warranty on the scratch repair. They will blink at the warranty, so then ask them if they would rather pull the bed. Removing a bed isnt such a big deal from your standpoint but it would cost the dealer several shop hours. So i think they would jump at the option of a extended paint warranty. If they do, make sure it is spelled out in writing and signed by the GM with clear indication of what is covered and for how long.

Thanks for the post, guys. Now I don't care how they fix it now as long as I can't tell there was any damage when they're done. I just want my truck back. Sucks when the first dings she gets is from Ford.
Get this... they offered me a Focus to drive in the mean time. WTF?! I left 'em a voicemail... something about a $40k truck and a $10k rental. No way! They offered a mustang but there's a stipulation that they'll tell me about tomorrow. I can't wait to hear what it is.

Another thing that really gets me is when I picked up my truck tonight I had boot prints all over my bumper and bed. I could even tell you where they touched the dash 'cause of the white prints they left. I just want to pull a Hulk and throttle these monkeys. (I have nothing against real monkeys.)

I'm sure this has been weighing heavily on everyone's minds so here's an update: Brought the truck in Monday, picked up my rental (a mustang, not a focus, got the truck back today. Looks good. Not perfect but good so I'm happy. No one will notice it unless I point it out now where as it as obvious before.
The mustang was fun. I stood on the gas everywhere I went. This truck is so much nicer - power, ride, interior, everything. Glad to have it back Ford makes an awesome truck.

That happened with my 03 Lariat a huge scratch on the door it was bad enough that they had to paint they had to R&I all the parts and replace the pin stripe. The guy that painted it made it worse he never denibbed so there was dirt in the paint & clear build up was so visable you could see where he taped the 2 tone real crap job. I was told you can take it to your body shop & they will pay for it just check with the dealer first.

Hey InboundFX4,

Glad to hear they fixed it to your satisfaction!

You're right about the Mustang vs F150 ride. I've been driving the truck for about a month now and just drove my Mustang for the first time since November. If you could imaging how a car with balloons for tires would ride, that's how it felt.

Re-painting is a last resort. It seems things never look right again.

IMO, it was only a 6" scratch, and on the back of the cab to boot...so I would've had them buff it out the best they could, and got them to throw in an extended warranty, or a rust-proof/undercoat, or at least some free oil changes.

When they screwed up again, I would've gotten an estimate from a reputable body shop and had them pay the bill (or you). I would never have taken it back yet again.

It was deep enough that a buff wouldn't have done anything..... I knew taking it back for the paint was risky. I had a difficult time bringing myself to take it in after the first scratch. All in all it worked out best this way. It wasn't an easy call (bring it in or don't let them touch it again) but it worked out for me. Honestly, I'm not sure how much they resprayed; the paperwork says just says "touchup."

You think that's bad, when I bought my 2001 F-250, I brought it to the dealer for a Rhino liner (55 miles on truck), and when I got it back the whole fender was dented and creased. It had also been buffed out so the dents were nice and shiny and I wouldn't see the marks. They fixed and repainted the fender on my brand new truck. Sucks, but sh** happens.

That's why I'm scared to get a lift put on. If my truck can get scratched (twice) while they fix a rattle imagine what can happen when they're crawling all over it swinging around new lift components.

unbelievable

I showed a friend the touchup job and she noticed another 4" scratch I missed when I picked up the truck. Between the cab and bed. Walked over to the other side and there's a nearly identical scratch on that side to. Looks like the bed slide forward when they pulled it. There's no way these jackasses are touching it again. But I still have to get my shudder-at-takeoff looked at. The next closest dealer is 20 minutes in the wrong direction. Who else can do warranty work???

Sweet Mother of ...... There's no way I'd accept anything less than full replacement of the truck.

Do not let them get away with that!

I thought they weren't going to pull the bed off?
