About 3 weeks ago my odometer went from around 90K to 139K for no appearant reason. The trip meter indicates 1.6 miles for every mileage marker I gage on the roadside. This all kind of indicates that somehow the cluster group was re-calibrated for kilometers vs. miles, except that the speedometer is registering about 10 to 15 mph slow, instead of faster for KPH.
When I inquired at my local Ford dealer they said that I could not reset the mileage via the on-board computer and the only solution was to replace the cluster group unit. The price for just the cluster was $800+ with exchange.
Anyone have any experience with failed cluster groups in the early 90's models? Is it possible to troubleshoot to find the real solution? Is the only solution the replacement or can the system be re-calibrated.
