Needles Pegging & Radio out!

Hi everyone, My 99 Expedition EB has a stock premium sound system with CD changer in the console.

Everytime I start it up, the needles Peg for a second, then fall back to normal and work fine.

My radio turns on and off whenever it wants. I have taken it out and tried a different one and still have the same problem.

Fuses are fine.

There is constant and switched power being sent to the radio harness.

While driving, it will turn on for a second, then off. Sometimes it stays on for hours/days.

I have poked, prodded, jiggled, twisted everything in hopes to find a short......

The needles have something to do with this??

BTW,it's not raining here!

I am not sure about the radio but when my battery started getting weak my instruments did the same thing until I replaced the battery. I think I read that if the battery is weak the computer will reset each time you start it and when the computer resets the guages all peg out for a second and then go back to normal. Hope this helps

I noticed everytime I start the vehicle it sounds like the battery may be a little weak.
I reset the computer and no more pegging....for now.
The radio is still acting up though, Thanks for the response!
Anybody else have radio problems like this???

As 18fan noted, these sort of problems are almost universally accepted to be signs of an impending battery death. I would guess, although to the best of my knowledge it's never been confirmed, that voltage variation caused by the failure of the battery to properly act as a 'juice well' for the electronic system is the cause of the intermittent problems and gauge malfunctions.

I guess I am lucky, I haven't replaced the battery in my 2k yet. I wonder how long before it needs to be changed.
