I have been browsing this site discussing exhaust, I have a
V-10 and I am wondering what anybody recomends for exhaust systems and mufflers that will sound good with my motor?
Ordered a 40 series Flowmaster 3" in dual 2.5 out.I talked to my local tube bender and he said he could run two pipes out behind each rear wheel so I could hear it.I found a sound clip of a V-10 with this setup at (www.exhaustsoundclips.com/ford.html) and I thought that it sounded great.I debated getting the 40 series due to the talk at this site about the flanges breaking under heavy abuse but I decided that this is the sound that I want instead of the Flowmaster kit with the mellower 70 series muffler. If the flanges break I will fire the mig up and fix them.

Got my system bent up and installed today. I went with the Flowmaster original 40 series with dual 2.5 pipes running out behind each tire with 4" short SS tips. It is not glass shatering loud but it is nice and pronounced. Hopefully it will get louder when the muffler breaks in. The shop that did the pipes has not done any ford V10's before and said they were impressed with the tone. It could be louder now it is still hard to hear over the sing of the tires.
The removal of the cat is out of the question in my state, besides my dealer said I could do what ever I wanted to the exhaust as long as I did not touch the cat or anything ahead of it they would still honor the warranty.
Put a 50 series (truck RV) flowmaster on. Sounded almost stock, but got a mpg or so better. Put on a Force ll cat back on. It's a little too quiet, but I can hear it! This time I ran it with only the cat first. The cat is a very good muffler on these things! That is why so many are dissappointed with the sound, I guess. If I change it again, there's a little round 3" straight thru truck muffler I saw once. It was made by Nelson. Good luck.
The paint is almost burned off my muffler today notice it is a little louder. Most of my friends were impressed with the sound. We noticed it is a little louder on the passenger side.
Glad you liked the sound of my truck on exhaustsoundclips dotcom.
I recorded that the day they did the work (been almost a year now) and the sound has only gotten deeper/sweeter IMO. Most people tell me they can here my coming on the other street and _know_ it is me b/c of theat unique v10 sound versus some other v8 truck coming along.
I live at the beach and have had no problems w/ the FM40 rusting - so far, so good!
