Here's my dilema, I have a 2001 4x4 F-350 Super Duty and I want to convert it to a F-450 because of the bigger 19.5 inch wheels and brake rotors that the F-450 uses.I know the 4x4 F-350 uses the same front suspension but what about the rear? And I know they both use a Dana 80 rear differential. I already have all the parts for this procedure. The reason I bought the the F-350 was because you could only get a 4:88 rear differential with a F-450 equiped with the 6.8 V10 and that was way too low of gears for me. My F-350 has 3:73 gears in it witch cruises down the interstate pretty well at a low rpm.
You have a F-350 4X4 SRW or DRW? Just about everything is different between a F-350 SRW and F-450. If you have a F-350 DRW about the only thing it has is common with the F-450 is the Dana 60 front axle and the Dana 80 rear axle. The frame, brakes, rear leaf springs, tires, wheels, etc. are all different. The front springs may also be different.
It's a Dual Rear Wheel 4x4.
I'm mainy concerned with installing the 19.5 inch steel wheels.
They look so much better than the smaller wheel on the F-350.
And I'd also like to have the larger diameter brake rotors too.
Does the F-450 have a bigger diameter bolt pattern?
I'm not positive on this but, I think the rims on the F-350 DRW are 8 lug 170 mm and the ones on the F-450 are 8 lug 225 mm.
As for the brake upgrade, I haven't a clue. I'm guessing it could be done but the question would be the cost. Maybe swing by a Ford dealer and see if they'd give you a copy of the parts break down for the axle and brake assemblies for a F-350 DRW and an F-450. See if just the brake calipers and rotors are different part numbers or if the whole axle and so forth are different.
