Has anyone removed thier muffler and put a piece of pipe in its place? Is it Too noisy? I plan on installing a Banks Exhaust in the future, just can't afford it now. But I want to relieve the back pressure and lower Turbo Temp.
I recently rode in a friends EX that had the muffler deleted. Gets to you after a while. But then my ex-wife used to complain (Tim, see how I avoid bad words ) about the rumble of my vette with the Borla racing exhaust. No mufflers, just a center resonator. It didn't bother me.

Nice choice of words .......do you pull with yours, if so of far and how much weight?
You mean my F250 or my vette? I pull a flats boat, and various trailers with farm tractors. The heaviest is probably 9000# with implements and the longest pull is about 150 mi. I had to sell the vette when I got divorced, and the only thing I pulled with it was a draft behind it. It was a '98 C5, 6 spd, with about 450hp when sold. A total rush.
Yes the truck is what I was think........haha.
The pull you are doing is short enough not to lose all your hearing with the muf removed.
If you are doing 800/1200 mile trips it could be too loud.
You're probably right, but I don't plan any exhaust mods right now. I'm satisfied with the way Buster runs. If I was younger, I'd probably mod it. I put the BVorla on the vette for the power. I'll have to admit it droned pretty heavily at highway speeds, but Lordy, when you put your right foot to the floor, it would make the hair stand up on the back of your ncek, and put a cloud of tire smoke behind you to make Goodyear cheer.
i took my muffler and tailpipe off then got a 45 then put a adapter from 3.5 to 4 inch and ran a piece of 4 inch pipe cut on a 45 comes out right before the rear tire looks sweet!! love the sound turbo sounds like a jet a real head turner when people hear me coming
its not much louder than stock, you can hear the turbo whistle louder and the noise level only starts to makes itself known around 2600 rpm or so.I really did not feal any power gain by removing the muffler but from what I hear the egt's go down 100 degrees or so..
The only problem after I did that was my mileage went down. It sounds so good when accelerating that I always have my foot on the floor. I did't add a pipe, just unbolted it about 4 feet behind the cat and dropped the whole thing off from there on back, about 20 minutes to do. You will need to drop the spare so you have room to wiggle the muffler and rest of the system out.
I didn't notice much of a sound difference when cruising on the highway, but that could be because I only run about 1900 rpms due to 37inch tires and 3.73s. It could also be because I have a truck and the exhaust exits way back behind the cab, probably different from the X's that complain about the noise. Or those guys might just be too old.
Just go ahead and do it. It sounds good, costs nothing, and you can put it back if you don't like it.
