I have the same set-up as you Screw 5.4 3:73 LS, built in K.C. The only shudder I have noticed is from startup Just as I accelerate from a stop it shudders for a second or two and that's it. I guess I did notice one other time making a right turn. Otherwise, since they replaced my throttle body, I'm running great.
I also have the Screw 5.4 3.73 LS built in KC. Had the shutter, but fixed now. Still has minor vibration between 1,200 & 1,400 rpm. My brother has the same set-up except in the extended cab built in Norfolk. His had the shudder and still has worse vibration than mine.
Screw 5.4 3.73 LS built in KC. Has the shudder-bug.
I feel sorry for all of these guys who ordered their trucks, wait 3 months, then get something that is not right. I would strongly recommend driving any of these 04 trucks for at least 25-50 mi on smooth pavement before taking delivery!
Are there any 4X2 trucks with the shudder? How about manual trans (is that even an option?). I sure hope Ford finds a fix soon. This is absolutly driving me nuts!
Oh NO!!!!
Got home from out of town on business for the last week and then got in my truck and drove it down the highway and now the steering wheel is shaking! I've read about this problem, but didn't have it before. Now I have the rear end and the front end shaking and I'm very upset about this. Looks like another trip to the shop...AGAIN. I loved my truck and now it's like a bad marriage....very costly to get out of.
Just chalk another "sterring nibble" up on the board.
Recals only happen on safety related issues. I'm just sick about this. I'm trying to be positive and let Ford fix the problem since I do like their products and so far it seems they are being supportive. I just have to be patient with the process. So far no pushbacks, so we truly do need to give the service and customer support some credit. There...now I feel better....today.
I think I may have found the vibration/shuddering problem....
I'm not an expert, but this is my opinion at this point.
It's not the rear end, drive line, or clutch packings (for the higher speed vibrations). This weekend I was loading stuff in the bed and accidently dropped the tailgate very slightly. To my amazement the bed kept vibrating and shuddering for 2-3 seconds. I did it again, and again and it was the same feeling I feel at the higher speeds. If you take your tail gate and drop it only 1 inch inch, you'll see the bed vibrate excessively. In fact if you do it and put your hand on the edge of the bed, you can feel the vibration travel to the front of the truck and then to the rear, back and forth till it goes away. I tried this on the neighbors older truck to see if it was normal...clearly not. I had the girlfriend do this and then sat in the drivers seat...same feeling I feel at higher speeds. It's like a vibration through the frame which causes the box to shake.
I think at the right speed the vibration is accentuated. I've always thought it strange that the truck would rattle and shudder over light bumps, well after the initial bump was felt. I've watched the bed and tailgate while this happens and thought it was something loose or a bad tire...it's not. I've got the dealership looking into this now and will let you know what I find out. They have coined the phrase "tailgate test" on other trucks as well.
Could be a simple fix and I hope so as everything else I love about the truck except this incessent shuddering vibration at higher speeds...and lower for that matter. I've been a Ford fan for years and look forward to helping the rest of you Ford fans to find a solution as well.
