At work we had 2 NG and 2 LP vans, with the 300 l6. They ran fine but did not have the power of gas!

I had a 302 with propane once, not allot of power until I got it rebuilt. You lose about 10-20% power with propane.

When running propane you need to up the compression upto around 13:1 to take advantage of the higher octane rating of propane(C3H8). If you do this propane makes just as much power as gas.

My dad has a 96 F150 with the I6 that runs on propane. We also have another truck with an inline six that runs on gas. It has more power and torque than the propane powered truck. If we had the time and money and the truck was 4 x 4 I would get my dad to convert it back to gas. It is also sometimes hard to find propane especially at 2 am! The only upside is that it runs a lot cleaner.

Wow, i always though that running propane increased HP/TQ not lower it. I guess everything has to be perfect in the conversion for it to perform well...

Ford Trucks since 87 have fuel injection & on board computers which take care of timing etc. No need to do anything with compression.
