alight y'all, I got bored on this mighty nice day so I decided to use one of my driving lights which I no longer have use for, as an aux. reverse light, I got it wired and it works. (But I wired it up so it comes on with the reverse lights) Now, question time.......
I want to keep it so that they always come on with the reverse lights, but I also want it to come on with the flip of a switch (tailgaters ) So how do I wire it to where, when the switch is in the off posistion, the light works with the factory lights, but when the switch is in the on posistion, the turn on?? Do I need a special switch to do that?
You don't want to flash tailgatters. It's illegal. Flashing someone at the wrong time can blind them and cause a nasty accident. I would leave it for only reverse.
With that said you would need to wire in a separate switch.
Please don't flash me, I'm only trying to get around and on down the road.
they are a 15 amp light, but I'm also gonna fuse it. so I need a single pole, single throw switch, then I take the power from the light and run to the switch, the run the load from the switch to the factory reverse lights? and then of course ground both teh switch and the lights? Do I have that right?
ok, I think I may get it, (Sorry, I"m slow at this) I'm amkind a schematic of what I think I need to do... once again Mitch, sorry for my stupidty and being patient. I jsut wanna make sure I do this right.
Will this turn on his back up lights? That was the reason I mentioned the 3 way switch. That way he could have:
1) aux lights on in reverse
2) aux lights off in reverse
3) aux lights on and backup lights off
I just want it so that when the switch is off, the aux. light turns on only in reverse, but when the switch is turned on, the aux. light turns on, like a regular aux. light would.
Leave it on single throw/pole it will come on when you go into reverse, just like on an ambulance. With the switch you can manually turn it on.(that is if you tap into your reverse lights)
I would suggest that you just wire it seperate, and run it from inside the cab, that way you don`t ruin you backup indicator.
well, I've already got it wired. lol... but earlier tonight, I notcied its not very bright at all? is that maybe b/c the wire that I tapped into can't handle the voltage of the light AND my reverse lights??
