Stereo Display Issues

The display on my '98 has gone out. The stereo works in every way, but the display. So, I took out the stereo and opened it up and looked at the LCD panel and I can see a small burn mark around the lower right corner of the display. Now, I've read around and found out that this is a rather common issue with F150's and Ford trucks in general that they fixed around 2000 or so. So, my questions are, in no particular order..

1. Can the display be removed? It looks like it's a IC style chip that is in a housing that is soldered to the board.

2. Where can I find a replacement part for this?

3. What am I looking at for cost in general?

Thanks in advance!!

There is a forum for audio questions, go there and search for :display" and you'll find more than you can read in one sitting.

It can be repaired, some say not to, but I like the rear controls and other features on my dual media. That's why I had it repaired for around $70.

The display going out is a common problem. It is usually some loose solder joints in the DC to DC power supply. This power supply is on the same PCB that the display is soldered to....
