No 3rd gear or Overdrive
I took my 1997 F250 Powertroke mudding the other day and upon leaving found I couldn't get out of second gear. The truck starts out fine in 1st, then shifts to second, but stays there. I've dropped the pan and changed the fluid and filter just to be sure. I also looked at the solenoid pack and tested it on the bench. All the solenoids seem to fire just fine, but still no 3rd gear.
Anybody have any clue on where to start? I pray it's not rebuild time.
The truck has about 165,000 mile on it, could the E40D really be dead? I've checked the wiring connector on the passenger side of the tranny, and none of the wires are burned. I also disconnected and reconnected it just to make sure it was plugged in all the way.
Can anyone describe how a bad wire or sensor could have cause this? I'm hoping it's just something electrical that got wet or fried in the mud. Is there an easy way to pull codes? I have one of those little handheld "Actron III" code scanners. Will that do the trick?
i had the truck up to the door bottoms in water and mud for only about 5 minutes, nothing too bad...
Thanks guys,
Irving Seligman
