I have been considering installing a roof rack on top of my 95 CC so I can carry a 14' aluminum jon boat up there while I 'm pulling my travel trailer. Was thinking along the lines of something off of a large suv or a station wagon. Only thing that kinda makes me cringe is the thought of drilling holes in my roof. Thoughts?
I don't think they are designed for that kind of weight... Look at Yakima or a couple of different brands that make bike racks. I've seen some that mount in the top of the doors when open and clamp in so there may be no need to drill. I try to find the one I saw and post the link...
Have you looked at a ladder rack, it installs in the bed rail holes so they would not be any drilling. It should have a section that goes over the cab and will give you more to tie it down to. Just make sure it is secure to the bed. I think they make one that the back brace over the tailgate can be removed so you can load tall items in it. If you ever have anything long to carry it can be carried on top and not hang out as much.
Aarkie, I should have mentioned that my truck is a flat bed so a ladder rack won't work. I've got a regular dually bed that I plan to put on it eventually. Besides, I really don't like the way ladder racks look. Thanks for the reply though! I'll look into a rack that clamps on F-250. That would be ideal if it will handle the weight.
Two fuel tanks. As of right now I dont have a spare in the truck. Next month I will be driving to Long Island from Boston. Im gonna have to get one and throw it in the bed for the trip.
