tranny temperature
I have a 94 f250 4X4 460 longbed supercab with an aftermarket PermaCool temperture gauge and filter. It is plumbed into the output line going into the radiator cooler. It also has factory installed aux cooler. Currently temps are in the 50s. On freeway driving the gauge indicates between 110 and maybe 130. I do not know how accurate the gauge is, I assume it is really just a "Cold/warm/hot/toohot" type gauge.
I also tow an 8,000# trailer and I don't recall the temp but don't think it has ever gotten to 200. I will check next time in May when I am scheduled to take my hell drive up the Blue mountains in maybe 100degree heat running maybe 20-40mph for 10 minutes.
I think I read somewhere that for every 20 degrees above 200, you lose half the tranny life. There are also several web pages with variations on that theme, like this one...
