Engine swap question(s)
Just inside enjoying this wonderful Minnesota weather tonight, so I'd thought I'd take the oppurtunity to ask all the Ford masters out there a few questions.
To begin, I have an '87 Ford F150 4wd with a 302, that currently just died, with a 4sp manual behind it. I have found a wonderful running '90 Ford F250 4wd with a 351W and 5sp overdrive and I want to swap out the entire engine/tranny combo from the 3/4 ton into my pickup. Has anyone done this? What problems/dilemmas can I expect to encounter? My main concern is: Will the 351W plug into the '87 wiring harness? I know all the exhaust will have to be changed, but I'll have the complete donor truck right there, so that's not a problem. Will the 351W bolt right in with the 5spd? Is the fuel systems on both the same? They both have dual tanks, but that shouldn't matter, right?
Next, if the swap isnt' too challenging, what is a good cam to run in a stock 351W efi? One that doesn't require extreme valvetrain modification? Do they make headers for this setup? I know that some 1/2 ton pickups came with the 351 also.
Any advice or concern is welcome. I thank all of you in advance. It at least gives me something to do on nights like tonight, where I can only see large, white flakes falling outside my window!
