The right window on my 1997 F150 XLT likes to stick in the up position. I was able to pull apart the door, disconnect and slide it down. I lubricated the guides with silicon spray, reconnected the windows and ran it up and down several times to run in the lubricant. I've got this sneaky suspection that it's going to repeat this. Does anyone know if the motors trip out on limit (position) or torque (force)? Is there anyway to adjust the window/motor so that it doesn't ride up so hard in the door?
There is no limit switch on the motors. Basically they go up until they power out and then rely on the operator to stop pressing the button.
I'd guess that you have a motor that is getting weak and will probably need to be replaced.
I just noticed that you had your email in your signature. Rather than doing that you can go into your settings at the top of the page and turn on email there. With the email turned on no one can see your email address unless they email you and you reply.
I have this same problem with my Saturn (yeah, Iknow it a GM, but I only use it for the hour commute to and from work). It only happens when its really cold out. I sprayed silicon lube in along the guides and all is well. Take note of the outside temps when your window sticks. It may only be that.
Thanks for the replies. As far as replacement goes, the power window regulator (motor & transmission) is held in place with 6 rather huge pop rivots. I have a pop rivoter, but nothing that large. What have people used that have replaced them?
You might be able to get a riveter at a tool rental place or parts store. If not, you can probably use 1/4" bolts instead of rivets.
Just make sure they dont stick out too far and get in the way of anything.
