I have a 1986 f150 4x4 5.0 4speed,I put a new cat convertor on it 1 year ago passed no problems but last night coming home from work the emission light came on why? could the oxygen sensor or sensors have failed
The emissions light is in no way connected to any of the sensors or computer. It's designed to come on approximately every 60,000 miles (actually 2000 hours) to alert you to perform the scheduled 60,000 mile emission maintenance Ford wanted you to follow. To reset:
1. Turn the key to the off position.
2. Find the emissions warning light module under the dash, between the wiper switch and steering column. Insert a small screwdriver in the hole and hold.
3. Keep the screwdriver held in and turn the key on. Hold the screwdriver in for 5 seconds.
4. Remove the screwdriver, the light should go off in 2-5 sec. If not, start over. Turn the key off.
5. Turn the key on. The light should come on for 2-5 sec. and go out. This means it is working properly.
