suspension problems

Hi everyone I have a 97 ford expedition(eddie bauer) so you know what that means. Ive had this truck going on 5 years and I have a little over 130,000 miles, I do alot of driving and would like to keep this truck for at lease another 2 or 3 years. I recently had suspension problems with this truck and had the dealer replace my compressor unit, and it cost me many hundreds of dollars. When I got the truck back I found that the compressor works but the truck still rides very bouncy. Did I waste my money in getting this thing fixed ? Can I put regular shocks in this truck and get a decent ride ? What do I have to do to fix this problem ? Thanks

Welcome!

Try the search feature on all questions, it can save you some time and effort. Do a search on suspension and it will come up with what you need.

One for example: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...252Bsuspension

And it does describe a conversion kit.

If it's bouncy in front and back replace all shocks. Almost three tons of bouncing steel is not fun or safe.

You didn't say if it's four corner air like mine or it it's just the rear. If it's rear air only, put Bilsteins on all four conrers.

If you have 4 corner air, you can only get the front air type shocks at the Ford dealers, no where else. You can put the Bilsteins on the rear and be happy again.

Do yourself a favor and go for the conversion kit. Try www.strutmasters.com they have a coil spring conversion kit. I put it on my '98 and it worked fine.

Your dealer is pulling your chain. My dealer changes out my front air shocks for $350. The shocks are $125 each. The rest is labor and tax.

I recommend you not mess with a excellent design.

Are you talking about dealer shocks ? 125? hmmm I need to check the parts department to see how much they cost I really dont like to waste money but I did have them fix the air compressor and that cost me a whole bunch of money if I go to the conversion I would have wasted that money, but if I dont Iam scared that the problem will reacure. This dealer charges $88 an hour for labor I would assume that all dealers in my area are about the same are you telling me that thier not ?
