Piston Slapping
I have heard many people mention the problem of piston slap in the earlier V-10's. What is it, and how do I know if I have a problem? I do not notice any particular sound. What should I be listening for. I now have 33,000 miles and want to make sure I do not miss any problems before the warranty expires.
For information of others:
My truck is an F-350XLT, srw, 2wd, short box, crew cab, auto, 4.30 limited slip rear end, heavy duty tow package, stabilizer bars, 265-75 R-16 tires.
Aftermarket products include Line-X spay on bed cover, Pace Edwards Cover, Gear-Vendors Over-Underdrive, Banks Trans Command, Amsoil By-Pass Filter Sysem.
I run Amsoil Synthetics in the engine, transmission, rear-end and wheel bearings and do oil analysis using the Amsoil Tri-Guard System.
The truck also has a deflector nose guard, full length fiberglass running boards, 4 lighted grab bars for entry assistance by doors (mostly for looks) I also use a roof mount stainless steel Wingmaster airfoil when pulling my 10,000 lb loaded weight 5th wheel.
