Just bought a 2004 f-250 crew. One week to the hour since I signed the contract the dealer calls me and says that i dont Qualify for a promotional rebate that they gave me. To sum it up, The dealer says I owe THEM $740. ANY advice would be helpful.
No, they never said that I might not Qualify. They gave me a 1000 credit for commercial upgrades and I had a letter from ford saying that I could get 740 (equivelent to two of my old truck payments) cash towards the purchase of ANY new ford car or truck. Ford also sent me a 2500 rebate (did not specify deisel ar gas as the dealer insisted) skiped that for the 5.9 financing for 6 yr. Dealer says since i took the commercial upgrade, I cant get the 740 from letter.
Seems like they shoulda checked into that BEFORE they made the deal w/you and sold the truck. I'd look for any small print on the letter sent to you just to be sure. Either way, i'd say the STEALERship is s*** outta luck.
Another thought: paperwork has been signed..how do they expect to get this $ from you? They cant change the agreement now.
I think what you have is the RTCM Customer Payment Award Program, and that is not compatible with the Commercial Connection Program. (Do you still have a copy of the offer from Ford?) Of course, your dealer could have (and SHOULD have) verified that before they delivered the truck to you. I just verified it 30 seconds ago, so why couldn't they? Basically, he's SOL.
Now, I'm sure the manager told your salesman to call you and "get that money." It's worth a try on their part, because some people will actually pay it. If you have it in writing that they gave you the rebate, there's really nothing they can legally do. They can refuse to service your vehicle, they can threaten you with a lawsuit, but it's all hot air.
Thanks 1956MarkII, I thought a contract was a contract, At least in my business it is. I have had to eat several mistakes from my bids over the years. Would you work something out with the dealer or make them eat it? By the way, this is my second truck from that dealer in 4 years.

Ouch. So there's a little more to this- you've got a working relationship with this dealer. I never tell people what to do, I can only offer advice (and if my brother-in-law is just TOO STUPID to accept it, well that's his loss! Sorry, got side-tracked there. ). You could tell them, "sorry, your problem," but I would at least offer to work out something. Pay the whole amount? Nah- it was THEIR screw-up. I don't even know if I'd split it, 50-50. But I would offer at least something. It will probably pay in the long run.
My working relationship is 2 vehicles in 4 years,2days. I have talked to a lot of people about this and the more i think about it, The more I get insulted by it. Lets reverse the situation..I'll tell them that I think I paid too much and I will tell them that not only will I not pay the 740,BUT, I would like a check in the amount of 740. Afterall, they wouldn't even give me a free first oil change.NOW,,,,,when they finish laughing at me,, What do you think they will tell me????
Now you know why, each night before I go to sleep, I pray to the dear Lord for one thing: THAT FORD WILL GET RID OF ALL REBATES AND JUST LOWER THE PRICE OF THEIR VEHICLES!!
I hope you don't mean that I insulted you. Perhaps you should just go to them and say, "Look- I'm not the one that screwed up here, and I did nothing to misrepresent the rebate offer that Ford sent me. If it wasn't compatible with the Commercial Connection program, why didn't you check that through SmartVINCENT (Ford's incentive-verification software) before you put everything in writing? Why should I have to pay for your mistake?"
1956MarkII, Please dont take that to mean that you insulted me. I feel greatful to have found this website and you of all people seem to give honest and upfront advice. I paid about 1000 over invoice for this truck (I know foolish huh?) and I dont feel I owe them anything. I asked for a couple of oil changes and they said there was no money for that.(I was hooked at that point) They did wait until my 5500 deposit cleared the bank before telling me there was a problem. I just cant understand why you can find out this info in 30 seconds and it takes them 5 business days (7 calender) to call me. So I will go in monday afternoon to talk with them and see what we can work out.
Just to let everybody know, I went to the dealer and asked them if it was a legal and binding contract that "we" both signed. The sales manager said he had to run it by somebody higher up...came back out of the office area and said they would eat the mistake. Thanks to everybody for all the help and advice.
