Train wreck

I heard on the news tonight about a train hauling cars that derailed. It was going from KC and derailed in Oklahoma.
Hope they weren't Fords!

We had one near us ( 8 miles away) 20 cars off the track yesterday AM. We tried going by there today>>> not a chance the rail line is open, but the hwy is still closed.

The cars were empty but some vapours Anhydrous Ammonia (sp) was bad enough they evacuated a nearby Mobile Home Park.

Lest we not forget that great natural urban renewal tool, the tornado.

They were saying several large thunderstorms moving through the area flooded the drought stricken land. Happens a lot up here, we get a lot of rain in short time, and the ground is so hard, water won't soak in. This just ran downhill, and traintracks are always downhill.

We had an avalanche that knocked 20 grain cars off the tracks, and a coal train got blown over on the High line. Do you have any idea what it takes to blow a coal train over?

When I lived in Arizona they had a train derail carrying a load of T-Birds Super coupes, they just ended up burying them were they fell. Anybody wanna go on a digging Expedition?

From KC they could be GM or Ford. Both have plants here.

Ya, I heard about that, last I heard (yesterday i think), there was still 2 cars on fire that they could not get too, so they were just gonna let it burn itself out (typical of us Okie's, lazy way or no way).

If I'm not mistaken, I heard on the morning news that they were GM cars from the Fairfax GM plant, (Kansas City, KS). Judging by the way those train cars were laying, I don't think the cars will come out in very good shape. What a terrible waste!

I got the story:EDMONTON, Alberta -- Twenty-eight people were evacuated from a mobile home park south of Red Deer Thursday morning after several train cars containing toxic anhydrous ammonia residue tipped over in a derailment.

The derailment was near Springbrook, just south of Red Deer, Alta.

"We’ve identified 24 dangerous good rail cars and one car is confirmed leaking," said Don Bardonnex, Red Deer County fire services manager .

Some of the Canadian Pacific Railway cars were loaded with flammable butane fuel. A distinct chemical smell could be detected in the region.

Three rail employees were taken to Red Deer hospital for observation. The residents were evacuated as a precaution, officials said.

The accident happened about 4:30 a.m. when 19 cars of a 70-car freight train left the tracks. Emergency officials called to the scene included fire crews from Red Deer County and the town of Penhold, RCMP and a hazardous materials team from Red Deer Emergency Services.

An air monitoring vehicle from Calgary was on its way to check air quality.

Roadblocks were set up south of the derailment at Penhold at Hwy 2A and north of the site at MacKenzie Road. Other connector roads were also closed.

Officials were able to obtain a list of materials being hauled on the train. Derailed cars included both dry-goods and tanker cars.

Widely used as a refrigerant and in the agricultural, chemical, petroleum and water treatment industries, anhydrous ammonia is a compressed gas with extremely toxic vapours which irritate the eyes and skin.

Three rail cars continued to block the main entrance to the community of Springbrook Thursday morning.

Springbrook is a tiny rural community with 11 homes in its trailer park.

THis the one you talkin about?
