HI ALL : here i am again asking for help.at least you're all here.... my car has the vin #'s etched on all the windows.this is not good...... how or who do i see to get rid of this. the automotive glass places say to replace the windows...yeah, right...$$$ what do you all suggest. i know someone has run into this.HELP !!! thanks all......joezee
hey million: didn't check super close.could be.i'll check tonight or tomorrow.didn't know they made stickers for them.sure look etched but will check.thanks for getting back to me.this has me a bit worried..thanks.....joezee
Why do you want to remove the etching of the VIN #? It's a theft deterent (in theory), if your car is stolen and chopped up for parts, the parts could be identified back to your car (assuming the thief is caught). If you do want to take it off, I guess you could grind it off with a dremel tool.
HELLO : the number is etched from the outside lower bottom of the windows.it is etched not a sticker................REASON: would like to get rid of those numbers because anybody could get a key made with the vin#.even the numbers on the ft dash should be covered up with tape. paranoid ???? probably !!!!! what do you guys think
I had a 95 cougar with the vins etched in every piece of glass, I thought it was a good idea if it ever got stolen and maybe they tried to piece it out
I do know its just chemicals they use to etch them in tho, gonna be tought to take it off, I cant see the reason for removal anyway
I don't know if this will work, but some craft stores sell a paste or liquid that you can used to etch designs on glass. I guess it depends on how deep the etching is. It should be able to obscure it enough to be unreadable.
Not to mention, If you are trying to remove the VIN from the windows, I assume you have also removed (or covered) the one on the dash. Something that is illegal.
If a police officer spots the "removed" VINs, expect to spend a long time sitting on a curb (probably in handcuffs) while the officer checks, double checks, and triple checks, that the car is not stolen.
