gearing and mini spool

Ok I have weighed the pro's and cons of mini spooling the rear compaired to a regular locking rear end and here is what I have. I am on a light budget and due to the large tires I have decided to run in the back of my truck I need to put lower gears in. I am going to get 4.11's to put in my 9" rear tires are 32x12.50x15 street performance radials. the rear is a factory limited slip (which sucks), I want to have both wheels locking for when I run it at the track (which I do alot) but I was wondering if mini spools are really as bad on the street as they say? I do drive this truck on the street alot also. Anyone here runing one now or have run one in the past?

Basically running a mini spool on the street will eventually cause your axles to bend and/or break because the tires will not be differentiating around corners. You whole rear end will slide or hop around a corner. Spools and mini spools are meant for off road use only.

thanks. I was hopeing that they wouldn't be that bad but if it's going to eventually bend or snap my axles it's not worth it to me. does anyone have any recomendations on a fairly good locking differential?

I'm not so sure about the 9 inch, but on the 8.8 you can add extra shims to the clutch packs so they will bite harder.

For basic automatic lockers, the best are the Detroit Locker www.tractech.com and the Lock Right and No Slip www.powertrax.com Expect to pay $300-600 for a locking diff. For more info on all types of traction adding differentials, check out www.precisiongear.com or www.ring-pinion.com
