I have found a NP435 out of 81or82 F-250 4x4 will it fit in my 78 ford F-250 (I am switching from C6 to man.). I have read your forums on the switch but it doesn't say anything about the newer trans. If not, what is the years to look for.
The trans. can come with a transfer case (NP 208F) is it good one or just stick with mine? I have either married or the divorced transfer case which one is good to go with?
Also is I have a 429 motor (needs to be rebuilt) or 460 with 11-1 compression (more of a race motor) that I can get hold of. I would like the 429 because I can build it the way I want, and I can still run on not so high octane gas. Or just find another 460? What is you opinion on this?
I am new to this so any help would be appreciated.
Are you sure it's not a t18? As far as the x-case, you can use the current one, but if it is full time 4x4, I would use the 208. I know everybody says the 205 is the best in the world, and I don't disagree, but if you aren't into beating your truck, the 208 should be fine. I like part time, which is why I say to get rid of the full time. Either way, they should both be female 31 spline input x-cases. the only thing is notching the collar to fit certain shifters, but you will just have to see what works. Ted
PS, you can look at a 2wd t18 in my galleries. They have a cast iron top instead of aluminum, and a 13-01 somewhere on the case.
Look again at my drivetrain pics. There is a pic of a yellow 205 In the truck. Not the best for IDing it, but in the back, the idler shaft has a 3 bolt cover. In my pic you can see the big round front output rear cover. It is aluminum. The 208 is part time. Ted
The NP435 has an aluminum top shifter cover. Also Ive never seen a fulltime 205 transfer case. I think all the 205's were partime.
Its the 203 chain driven thats fulltime. The 208 is a excellent choice for medium duty 4 bying. Its got a lower geared low range. And will save alot of weight. Ill stick with the 205 , its bulletproof!!!!!!!!!!
