Kind of a waste of an option. Why a dealer would stock a specialized piece of equipment. I also have two alternaters! Without powerseats or marker lights(now I have marker lights).
I like the aircompressor idea but I thinkt the Mrs. is sold on the hydralic dump bed.
Horsepuller: your comment caught my interest. Do you know of anyone who hooked up a compressor to the PTO?? I'm in need of an onboard air system for general air around the garage as well as (primarily) air up after I come off the beach. 12 Volt portable's don't cut it. There's no room for a second compressor off the engine, so how about the PTO. What do you know about it??
all super duties with the manual transmission come equipped for a pto but it has to be ordered for an automatic. dont think many people utilize this option besides specialized work vehicles!!!
Don't know of anyone who put a PTO compressor on a pickup, but I'm sure it can be done.
I've included some links to some manufacturer's that offer them.
Actually the tractor compressor may be the best for your needs. It's small, and you would only have to make up a bracket to hang it under your truck. It's probably the least expensive. If there is a farm or construction implement dealer near you, you could see what they have to offer too.
The other two I think are larger compressors intended for municipal or utility crew trucks, see what you think.
Your Ford dealer or a heavy duty truck dealer like Freightliner or Navastar might be a good source too.

Horsepuller: Thanks for the sites. I'm still looking for the best on-board air sys I can find for my limited use. I fear the PTO idea is going to cost more $ than I'd like to spend but I'm going to look into it. Great idea about the tractor compressor. Looked at belt diven system but they don't make it for the PSD. Anyway, I'll get back with any results.
Just remembered I read some articles in a 4wd magazine a while back that mentioned electric on board air compressors.
The compressor was for an air locker for the axles. They also built a small air receiver out of 3" pipe. (It was incorporated into the bumper). I believe it had a pressure switch that cycled it automaticaly as needed. It was a 12 volt system and I believe was much higher capacity than those portable ones that you plug into the lighter.
Doesn't your truck have two alternators also? Maybe you could use that feature to good advantage. You could probably get a couple of the electric compressors for a fraction of what a PTO driven one would cost.
Another PTO application: Vacuum cleaner. The whole truck becomes a giant shop vac on steroids. Handy for limited excavation in tight places, like crawl spaces, getting sand out of the bottom of hydraulic elevator casings.
