Electrical Problem
I own a 1991 F-150 and my issue is an electrical problem. I will start with the last event and work backwards.
I recently replaced my battery cause my stuck would continue to crank over, even in the off position sometimes. Sometimes this either kills the battery or dumping the clutch stops the process. I put a new battery in and the terminal started a meltdown which I quickly ceased. I have replace the starter solonoid, starter, alt, battery X6 over 5 years, new motor by choice, Ingnition switch, and something with the distributor advance by the dealership. There is more but time is short!
I have experienced unusal occurances in the past. Radio buttons sometimes would not work controlling the volume, switching the station, battery charge not lasting more than a day, starter staying engaged, wipers come on automatically and probably some other things I can't remember. Is this a ghost or a demon I need to set free by burning my truck!
The only history I know about the truck is that it was in a minor accident that mostly involved damage on the right side. It now sits in front of my house waiting for the death order to be signed. Please help me with my first ford experience!
I can only give you advice from here...You will need the patience of Job to find the problem. Find a good set of wiring diagrams for your particular truck. I would start with the starter motor issue (the most likely to cause a fire due to the current draw). Obviously there is a short somewhere. Check all of the wiring and connections. You may have to remove body or interior panels but you will need to check everything. If any of the harness or wiring looks questionable unwrap it and check wiring for chafing.
Do you experience any of this at a given time? When it's raining or after washing your truck for example? Your wiper relay is behind the kick panel on the passenger side. I have seen water get into this area via the windshield causing erratic wiper operation.
Did the previous owner have an alarm system or remote starter that was removed prior to purchasing the truck? Check under the dash around the steering column for extra wiring or relays that don't belong (this is where the wiring diagram would be useful).
I could go on however, I am sure you see where the logic is headed.
I wish there was a clear cut explanation that I could give you...
