Lately, the 3.03 three speed manual in my '73 F-100 has been sticking in 2nd gear! I got under the truck to take a look and discovered that the rear shifter lever (controls 2nd and 3rd?) wobbles around a lot. It's the rod coming out of the case for this lever that is loose. I can pretty easily hold it straight and shift it back to neutral, but I know when I drive again it will jam.
Can I assume that there is a bushing in the case for this rod to pass through? If so, I guess it is worn out, so if there is one, can it be replaced from the outside? Can I grab it and yank it out or are they pressed in? Of course, getting it out with the rod still in there might be a pain. What do you all suggest? Thanks.
