Exclamation Inline 6cyl. HELP!!!

I have a 1981 F100 Custom and was recently experiencing a sputtering troblem at acceleration.I replaced the Carb.,fuel filter, fuel pump, starter, starter relay, voltage regulator, all gaskets, and today a new performance coil.I have gotten it to start but it will not stay idle.I thought maybe "timing" and set it to spec via. Chilton by rotating the crank to 6 deg. BTDC and aligned rotor with the distributor. Now,as I turn the egine over it will not start and is blowing fuel form the top of the carb like it is burping it out. That's the easiest way for me to explain it.I'm lost and don't know what to do next. Can anyone please help me?

Unhappy

Interesting, I am having the same problem with an 84 L6 300. It cranks like the timing is off after a recent tuneup. On occassion it will start, but more often than not it will drag the battery down.

By the way, just in case the plug wires are crossed someplace, does someone know the firing order for the 300 L6?

I believe the order for the L6 300 is as follows: 1-4-2-5-3-6

What will make the fuel blow out of the carb while turning over the ignition?

I think a stuck intake valve uset to cause one to spit back through the carb.
I would mess with the timing and see if it changes anything.

Probably your camshaft gears is worn off and throwing the timing off.

Did you pull the number 1 plug and get the number 1 piston on the compression stroke?

The carb I bought the first time did the same thing so I thought I just got a bad rebuilt carb.I took it back and returned it for another and it is still doing the same thing.Another question though,to get the #1 cyl. TDC I took out the #1 plug, inserted a screw driver and manually turned the crank until the cylinder was all the way up,right before it going back down I stopped and set the distributor, I also tried it by Chiltons by turning the crank until the timing mark lined up 6deg. BTDC and set the distributor and I get the same results either way.

Do that again but cover the plug hole with your finger or thumb to make a good seal then turn the crank shaft till you feel pressure from the piston on your finger.
The piston may have to come up as many as 4 times to get it tdc on the compression stroke.
You can back the crank up if you have to, when it is close.
