Leveling kit

Hey Guys,

Just bought a 1996 Ranger, 4.0, 4x4, ext cab, 5spd. This truck came with BFG 31x10.5 on it. I really like these tires but they look a little crowded in the front. I've been looking at a set of leveling coils for the front but can't decide if its worth the money or not. I've also thought about just adjusting the torsion bars, but I don't want to affect the ride too much. Doe's anyone have any pics of a truck similar to mine with the leveling coils on it or the torsion bar adjustment? If so I'd really like to see the pics.

Thanks

The 1.5" lift coil to level out the front end is the right thing to do. If it were me this is what I would do. My truck is lowered but I do mess with 4-wheel drives.

Or coil spacers. THe cheaper alterantive. Go to ebay and do a search on "Ranger Lifts" There is a place called Mako, and they have them. I'm planning on ordering from there, as soon as i get money in my pocket (bank acct)

Just wanted to point out that you do not have torsion bars. They are only on the 98+ 4wd Rangers. Go ahead and get some Superlift or Skyjacker leveling coils, you'll be happy you did.

i went the opposite way on leveling and removed my rear blocks. i run stock 235/15 tires and am not planning on ever going with a bigger tire. however i did notice it was harder to get the spare out from under the truck with it now 2" closer to the ground. measueing from the top of the wheelwell opening to the ground, i have 32.5" at the front and 33.25" at the rear. before i removed the blocks it looked like i was running air shocks on the rear.

After I got my 31's and thought they looked crowded, I just threw a 3" body lift on it... Looks WAY better and was super-easy to do. I don't like messing with the suspension (Especially anything with an IFS) if I don't have to...

my only problem with a body lift is i'm planning on getting a brush guard, and that will look funny, since it connects to the frame, same with tail pipes, trailer hitch etc.

i saw some of those coil spacers in either a jegs or j.c. whitney book, if there made out of nylon i'd almost be leary of them breaking apart with age or hard off-highway usage, but maybe im wrong. if i was going for a mild lift to level out, id go for the taller coils myself.

If you just want it level, flip the rear shackles to bring the rear down to the height of the front.

I think Daystar makes a 2" coil spacer for the ranger.
I want to put a body lift on my 98 4x4, but I've been wondering how easily a grill guard could be modified. The hitch could probably be modified pretty easily, or you could have one made for a decent price. I think the body lift would look okay if the bumpers were moved up, hitch was moved up, gap guards installed in wheel-wells, and some steps on the side to help hide the frame.

From what I understand the coil spacers will give you alignment/tire wear issues...I think it throws off your tow in or camber??? something like that? I know when you get new springs, on the older rangers, they come with new camber bushings and I am guessing this is where you get the weird tire wear from the coil spacers. On my 93' I did the skyjacker softride coils & camber bushings, this also required new shocks in the front as well. The lift was closer to 2 1/2" to 3" to level out the truck though. Nice to know I am not the only one who has issues with "stuffed" tires! Stranger706 called it right on the money IMO, spend the money if you can afford to and do the springs and you will not be disapointed -
