Changing engine, advise?

I have a 97 F150 4x4 4.6L with a blown engine. I am going to try and replace it myself. Have never done an engine but I have done a lot of other stuff and I think I will be able to handle it. I'm looking for a used or rebuilt engine right now. I have gotten a lot of good advise from this site already but thought I would try for some more. Anybody have any advise for a first timer? What to look out for? Things I'll need besides the obvious (engine hoist, tools, etc.) Parts list to have on hand? Thanks.

I know I have a blown 4.6 windsor engine but I don't know how many bolts are on the flywheel yet. I am looking for another motor. Does anybody know if I can drop a Romeo or a Windsor with a different flywheel bolt pattern in my vehicle? I believe I can if I get the new motor whith the flywheel still on it but I just want to make sure.
