In an earlier post , it sounds as though I have a carbon build up problem. I did a search here at FTE , and found much information.
I hear that it is bad to remove carbon in large chunks . I also read that trickling water into the intake would remove it. The truck is the first one listed below , with the 302.
What is the best and safest way to remove carbon buildup in a fuel injected engine without causing engine damage?
Well, as for the best way to remove the carbon deposits, you can go to you local dealer and ask for an induction cleaning service, usually it is part of the 60k treatment, This worked great, you could see the smoke out the exhaust as the carbon burned up, and it really restored alot of power as well. I'm not sure exactly how much buildup you have in your engine, may be too much for this if your talking about chunks.
Anyone else have some input on this?
Oh, i forgot, it uses BG products, 3 in all, one gets sprayed into the throttle body while the engine is running, the other gets spliced into the fuel line, and the engine runs on that till it stalls, in between that, they let it sit so the chemicals can soak in real well, then the last called 44k is dumped into tank, then floor it. Just wanted to let you know so you dont get confused and frustrated at the dealer.
By the way i have seen 44k at most auto parts stores, and some dealers might let you just buy the chemicals in the 3-pack to do yourself if you have the stuff.
I recommend SeaFoam Motor Tune-Up or GM Top-End Cleaner.
You pour 1/3 in the fuel tank, 1/3 in oil crankcase (through oil filler cap), 1/3 in the intake hose (usually just remove the vacuum hose from the brake booster and attach a funnel on the end of that disconnected vacuum hose... start the engine and then you could hear air get pulled in to the intake.. so just pour the remaining 1/3 of that solution until it is empty.... turn off the engine and plug back the vacuum hose to the brake booster.)
Let it set for 30 minutes to an hour or more. When you start the engine, it will have a lot of white smoke all over the place. Your neighbor will be like .. what the ??????
I recommend doing it when it is getting dark and drive the car at the highway speeds and put it at WOT for a couple of seconds..
Next, time to replace the oil and oil filter. Do it right after the engine was driven.
Went to a neighbours` business ( a tire shop) and while I was getting my new tires installed , I asked him about carbon removal. My truck was brought outside , and a vaccuum line disconected on the intake, a short rubber hose connected to this , 1 guy revving the engine , the other dipping the hose into the solution! Man , talk about smoke!
Almost immediately I noticed a difference in power.
