Post Milage

Hey, can anyone tell me what alot of miles for a ranger would be. I plan on buying a used one and i dont know what the price should be if there is to many miles. I will be putting closed to 110 miles a day to work and back. What would be too many miles to consider buying. I guess im asking how long they last... Thanks for any input...

depends (like anything) on how you drive it. But if you get the 2.3L (Lima motors, pre-98 i believe), you can count on getting a good 200k outta it, I think that there are guys on here w/ that same motor w/ over 300k. My 2.3L has 122K and still running strong. Also, the M5OD transmition seems to be one heck of a tranny.

A 4X4 4.0 seems awfully fuel-inneffecient to be the daily commuter car.

A 4x will not get the best milage, generally 2-3 less than a 2wd model. Kinda hard to say about the trans type nowadays.

I have 94 ext cab 4.0, 2wd, 5sp with 140000 miles and it still runs strong. It had 65000 on it when I bought it. Get 20 MPG consistently at around 70mph average. Run it 145 miles daily as a commuter.

To be honest with gas prices going up I think Id consider a sedan of some sort. My 98 Maxima (my son has it now) got 33MPG for the same trip I now use the ranger at the same speeds etc.

It sucks payin $25-30 for 15 gals of gas everyother day!

Besides a 4X has 2times the amount of parts to wear out for a commuter, and it will ride a little harder.

Just my 1/2 cent worth.

Hank
