I've had my truck for almost two years now, when I ordered it they asked if I wanted the engine block heater, it was free so I said yeah. The funny thing is I can't find the plug anywhere.
I was told they have done anyway with it but it was still listed in the options on the build sheet. Any ideas.......
Anyway it started fine the past winter with out be plugged in.
Before everyone screams do a search , which is justifiable. Look inside your drivers side tow hook cut out. See wiring? Thats it, mine was a pain in the butt to find and get out but it was there. Dealer told me there wasn't one, it was there. In Deleware, you really want to be using it in my opinion. If that doesn't work check inside the grill, but I would put money it is in the bumper at the tow hook
Yea it's usually stuck down in the bumper from the factory. Take a flashlight and shine it around behind your front liscence plate bracket and down below the tow hooks. That's where I had to pull my Dad's out from.
F-250 Super Duty,
Ford managed to hide that puppy really well. Took me some time to find it too, way back when.
1.) Stand in front of your truck.
2.) Right underneath the chrome bumper on your right hand side, the drivers side, there is a black tow hook (eye).
3.) Put your hand into the opening to the left of the tow hook and root around.
4.) Find the plug and pull it out! It won't feel like a plug to your fingers, since the prongs are protected by a plastic cover to prevent corrosion (Ford does have good ideas).
5.) Get some band-aid to doctor your cut up hand... there are some sharp edges in there.
6.) Plug it in, plug it in and hear the engine sizzle.
Now, mine is a F350, but I think the block heater setup is the same on the F250.
Anyway, I think the block heater idea is great since cold starts are hard on diesels.
Hope this helps.

Interesting, on my 2000 I have to reach up through the middle of the grill to find the cord. Maybe someone put it there to make it more convenient (I bought the truck used).
My 02 was hidden behind the tow hook you all are talking about. I traced mine from the connection near the oil filter mount, along the frame and then finally dug the plug out from behind the tow hook and bumper, where a large amount of dirt had it buried. My truck has been on alot of muddy country roads and this is why I had all of the dirt in the bumper area.
So you found the ruddy thing. Congratz!
Don't be amazed about the dealer (sales people) not knowing where the plug is. A lot of them could not find their own **** exit with a road map and a flashlight.
As to the dumb question... there ain't no such thing! There are only dumb answers.
Good luck with using the block heater in cold weather, it will extend the life of your diesel engine.
Happy motoring.
Super Duty, It's alright, this is one of the few questions that I would have the ability to answer. Kinda made me feel smart for a second! Especially after I spent a week trying to locate mine. Was under the truck, in the motor compartment, in the wheel wells, digging in the grille about three different times before I stopped by a dealership and asked a mechanic. Boy did I feel dumb.
