Hey there,
My 1970 F250 4x4 was originally a greenish grey olive drab color, Thought the color was ugly as all hell when I bought the truck, but it's grown on me over the years (interior's still original color). The truck's gonna go under the knife in about 8 months when I get back from deployment (navy) for a total restoration. I wanted to know what the original color was called, but when I looked up the VIN# I realized that where the paint code is supposed to be on my VIN plate, It's blank. The truck was custom ordered by pacific power. It was built in canada and sourced through seattle. The thing that really gets me wondering is when I sanded down the outside of the truck the last time I painted it, I couldn't find any trace of primer under the grey-green paint. I'm almost wondering if this truck was ordered in primer? The interior is the same color though and it's glossy. Now that I think about it, the original paint was like new and very glossy in the window frame when I removed the windsheild for paint. So couldn't be primer. I've never seen another one of these trucks in this color. Anybody got any ideas? Anybody got 1970 paint chips?
Thanks alot! It looks pretty close to crystal green though hard to tell on the monitor. I'll swing by a paint shop and see about getting a paint chip for 70 ford crystal green and comparing it. Thanks again.
Check out www.bumpsides.com . They have all of the paint chips and sales brochures on the 67-72 trucks. You can also have www.customersaskford.com decode your vin for free. It takes a few weeks to get the "build sheet" back. It will give you the original exterior and interior colors.
Shipmate.
I got a couple gallons of Haze Gray sorta greenish gray olive drab, then all you'd need is a hull number on her : ) Fair winds and following seas during your deployment!

companies, and the goverment special ordered vehicles in their own colors. that is the reason for no paint code. i am sure pacific power ordered enough that ford kept a couple thousand gallons of their paint on hand.
