400 2-barrel mod's

I was wondering if anyone had done any performance mod's to a
stock '78-'79 400 2-barrel and if so what they were and how
satisfied they are with them. It would be nice to have some kind
of a passing gear punch at highway speeds. Given the age
should I worry about remaining street legal with all the wonderful
emission stuff.

I put a 4bb holly wih elderbrock intake on my 78 4ooci. Gas mileage was bad and I always had to mess with the carb. Returned to the stock intake and motorcraft 2150 2bb and gained some better gas mileage and the power was very close to the 4bb, I was really surprise, actually shock, so I'm using the stock set up, just my two cents.

Hot Rod magazine built a California emissions legal 400 2V that put out 385 HP and 470# of TQ for less than $2000. There's a link to the article in one of the other threads.
