I'VE HEARD SOME OF YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT USING SYNTHETICS IN ADDITIONAL AREAS OF YOUR TRUCKS, SUCH AS THE DIFFERENTALS & TRANSMISSIONS. DO YOU HAVE ANY BRAND & PART # YOU CAN RECOMMEND. THANKS
amsoil for the engine, diffs and transfer case, and if i remember either pj1 synth for trans or believe it or not quaker state, ill check but u cant go wrong with amsoil for the eng, difs and tc. amsoil is 100% synthetic oil where mobil1 still relys on the use of crude oils, very minute but they are still present and are subject to the same break down as std. oil. amsoil dosnt suffer that type of break down because it is completely enginered oil
I used Amzoil in a '88 Suburban (glad it's gone) in the transmission, rearend and the motor. Great stuff! The only problem putting in egine every 3000 miles get expensive. I had to have the transmission rebuilt at 60000 miles, so when we put it back together Amzoil went in. I had the tranny service every 15000 after the rebuild with Amzoil replacing what oil was lost on service. I never had another tranny problem for the next 200,000 miles. It's going in to the real truck next service.
My '99 4X4 V-10 has std 3.73 diffs. Ford came out with a TSB stating that if you changed you petrol based diff oil to synthetic, your tow rating would be increased by 1200 lbs. That would not be possible because the net tow rating is already surpassed, limited by the GCWR. But the point is, use it. I don't know if my mileage increased because of that, or my truck just started getting broken in. Just remember, there is an additive used in the locking diffs. Do not put it in a std diff.

Synthetic oil will not break down as fast as conventional oil when it comes to heat. This is why most guys run synthetic in their engine, trans, and diff. Be aware that if you change your diff oil, you must also use the friction modifier from Ford if you have the limited slip diff.
I use Mobil 1 in my engine and trans, with Valvoline synthetic and friction modifier in the diff.
Dear Mr. Web,
I think my superduty comes standard with synthetic lube in the rearend. I had the pinion seal replaced at my dealer and I think he may have put the syn back in. I'm not sure but i should have asked to be sure. Do you know if they are required to replace it with the same lube?
Yes, its factory specs now. but if you want to replace it ever, make sure that you use Amsoil, It the best synth out there, for all lubes, oils and fluids your truck needs. Remember its the best bar none! And im not only a member, im the president, only joking. Just a normal joe
