hey guys......i own a 90 bronc 351w with E4OD tranny......what gears do i have in front and back and what size are they...like dana sizes is what i mean....i know much about cars but when it comes to that i have no idea.....also i was wondering the price on something like 4 56 gears and when they do gears are whats in the diff replaced....like lockers ad stuff...or arre the gears just chanced...thanks
A good chance you have 3:55 gears, but too be sure you can read the tag on either the front or back diffs.
If you have 3:55s, then to go too 4:10 or 4:56 you will need a new carrier.
The higher the numerical number, the more easily your motor will rev. Going to a 2.73 would bog out. Why would you need a new carrier with new gears? I KNOW the 8.8 is a straight swap and I would assume the Dana is as well.
The ID tags bolted to either axle will give you the stock ratio, prolly is 3.55:1
I think you need a new carrier when swapping to gears over 3.73:1 in the front Dana44 TTB. And 4.10's would be better for 33" tires IMHO
The tag should be bolted to the inspection plate or cover, opposite of the driveshaft, on your Ford 8.8" rear axle. I have a pic of one at Superford.org "1988 Bronco" (it was deleted from here)
On my Ford 9" rear axle, it's bolted to the the carrier housing, same side as the driveshaft. I have a pic of that here at FTE.
