Help!! I was helping my son with his 76 360 F250 tonight and as he was fiffling with something I heard a squirt and smelled gas. I floow3d the fule line down from the carb to the fule pump and saw that the fule line has a cooper screw fitting but it's plugged into a rubber hose that goes into the pump? Why would the metal line have a way to screw it into another metal line but it's stuck into a rubber tube? Can anyone tell me how their gas line is connected to the pump? Thanks...feel free to email me at lonnie.dotson@boeing.com...if you can
The metal line is supposed to be preformed and connected to the carb from the fuel pump in one piece. They did not come with in-line filters. Two things might have happened: (1) The line was broken at some point and another, shorter line was installed requiring a hose coupler to make it fit or (2) an in-line filter may have been installed at some point and later removed.
In any case - if the rubber hose is fastened properly and seals there should not be a problem with leaving it that way.
Almost any parts store can get the original preformed line if you want to replace it.
Thanks big Orn, yes it looks like someone has cut the line and installed a line line filter just under the carb, whuch is fine...it's the other end that bothers me. Since my son has had the truck I have smelled gas and was going to get underneath the tank and see if there was a hole, but when he was changing the in-line fliter I heard a hiss noise that sounded like a fluide being sprayed, so I have a feeling it's the poor connection at the pump. There isn't even a clamp there!! I'll see if I can order a new one..
Dont order one so fast I think I have your solution. This happened to me. I started my truck up one day and I smelt gas and when I backed out of the parkin spot I saw a trail following me. On the side of the fuel pump theres 2 lines, an in and an out. None of the lines have clamps. The rubber line fits over a metal fitting which then fits inside of the fuel pump. What had happened to me was that metal fitting had vibrated loose. All I did was take the rubber line off and got the end of a screw driver and tapped it back in there and made sure it was in there good. Put the line back on and it was fine. I actually did that twice then i got a couple clamps and put them on there. Just a thought to try before you go spend unecessary money lol.
