Tire/rim advice
Tire/rim advice
Okay guys, I know I should put this on the Super Duty page, but I hate to start a war over there.
I just got my leveling kit installed, and it lifted me 3". I want to put 315/70's on "Buster" since the stock rubber looks pretty small now. I'm looking at Cooper Procomps as a compromise between a mudder and street tire. I really think I need 8 or 9 inch rims. Anybody have experience with 315's on stock 7" rims? My Brother-in-law can get me the 315's for about $ 135/ tire, and a set of 8" rims for about $350. I hunt and get in the mud frequently, but I also use this truck as a daily driver with a 25 mile commute, and it gets really hot down here. I've had problems with mudders overheating and blistering before, and usually had 2 sets of tires/rims that I swapped out when I went to the woods. Any suggestions?

Thursday morning I am getting some 285/75R16 put on my stock 7" wheels. I think I am pushing the wheel to it's max. I have seen a few trucks with the 285's on 7' wheels and they look good.
315's on 7" wheel
I think your asking for trouble.

you need at least 8 inch but I would get 10 inch with the 8 inch your tires will be crowned and you will not get very good mileage from your tires. I had the 315/70/16 on my 2000 and only got 22k out of pro comp tires, also the pro comps are completly worthless in mudd, you might want to take a look at the bfg or goodyear ats both will do better than the pro comps off road. that is what I have on the 2004 305/70/16 not doing to good, my last set of pro comps.

I look at that board quite a bit too, but it seems like some of the guys over there get too fractious when discussing lifts and tires. maybe it's all in fun, but I hate to start a fight. That said, if you feel it's more appropriate over there, i certainly understand.

eagle alloy 589, dont remember the back spacing, but the 10 inch rim will allow your tire to be flat across the tread instead of crowned, which will get you better mileage out of your tires. also tires will wear more even and stay in balance better.

Tim. I posted posted a reply in the SD forum about a lift question and got ripped especially from the moderator, they are all experts over there? I got most of my best info about lifts over here from JohnF250. I do not go over to the SD forum anymore.

Tim, I did ask the Moderator, Yeti, a question about rims and backspacing yesterday on the superduty forum, and got back several nice and very helpful replies, including one from him. I guess it's just some of the guys who post there sometimes who must not like each other. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'm going with 10" rims and 315's. That should be enough for a 50 something guy.
There ya go, some just hide behind a screen and use a keyboard as a weapon. I am not wired to understand that type of character flaw. No mater what a FEW do......FTE is still the best.
I couldn't agree more. I've had some of the usual teething problems with my truck, but I've found all the answers on this forum. I first came on this forum to find out a simple way to remove/repalce the air filter. By following the threads, I discovered the rear main seal leak, which I probably never would have discovered. Andy properly diagnosed my carrier bearing problem, and with the TSB in hand i had no problem getting it replaced along with the rear pinion seal. And most importantly, i know to closely watch my oil for diesel fuel since i have C94 injectors. This forum is very helpful.
