Autolite AP45 vs AP46?
Autolite AP45 vs AP46?
I just tuned up the truck and I'm still not satisfied with the amount of pinging at higher RPM or under a load such as going up a hill. I did notice that I got a set of plugs one number hotter than the old ones, Autolite AP45 vs AP46. Would this make a noticeable difference in the pinging I'm experiencing? Points are gapped at .35.
I replaced the wires, cap, rotor, points (properly gapped .17) and condenser at the same time. Timing verified at 10 degrees. Also am running 93 octane. On 87 it pings worse. I know I could reduce the timing but then it will really be a dog. Pinged about the same before tuneup. I thought the new goods would cure this.
Does anyone think that getting rid of the points and going with a Petronix, Mallroy or Crane conversion would eliminate this problem since it seems to be happening at the high end only where the points are more prone to error?
