I have an '01 V10 4x4 SD that has had the flutter from 1800-2000 rpm since the day I bought it. The dealer has wasted more of my time telling me that its normal and that its no big deal OR that they can't hear it at all. I've searched for months and months on the internet and tried all the fixes.
Today I tried one more time. Except instead of bending the tranny shield into some new fangled position, I pulled it off. No more flutter. Huh. Well.... Cool.
So I flipped that POS over and bolted it back in place, OVER TOP the torque converter dust shield, instead of behind it.
Problem solved. Just thought I'd share, since its been driving me batty for 50k miles.
I didn't flip mine over....but I added some two sided tap....you know that stuff with the hard styrofoam between the adhesive....stuck it on the dust shield and did not remove the opposite backing....works great.....and you were right....awesome truck but embarrassing with that silly sound coming out of it....not ford has to fix thier door panels and a perfect truck...
