Can the GVWR of a truck be increased legally? My '90 F250 4x started out life as a 6600 lbs, semi-float POS. I've since added about 75hp to the 5.0, added a full-float with same 4.10 gears, and the rear springs from a 8800lbs truck. However, I still have a tag that says 6600lbs max. Not a huge deal, but I dont want to be caught overloaded by the 6600lb. standard when my running gear is easily capable of the 8800lbs max. Anything I can do???
Thanks,
The GVWR/GCWR are set by the manufacture. The weight limits are determined by, brakes, axles, tires/wheels, engine, transmission, gears, frame strength, springs etc. It is a complete package.
In order it change the GVWR/GCWR weight rating sticker, you have to be a certified manufactures upfitter.
