door handle problems

door handle problems
on the driver side of my 96 eb I had to replace the door handle. during the process I noticed that the part that the handle mounts to and makes the handle work was not tighting up to the door. So I take it off and one of the mounting holes on the door was ripped, and it will not tighten up. I am not sure how to fix this. It looks to small to weld and not big enough problem to change the whole door. I know in the near future the handle will brake again.

Put something in there to fill up the void caused by the rip. Possibly experiment w/ some spray on bedliner in there? Go ahead and raid the junkyards if you know you'll be getting another handle later on. -William

i had this happen just shifted the handle a little bit and drilled a new hole& bolted in down with a flat washer so it won't rip out again i was in kind of a hurry when i fixed it but it's held up for over a year. a better way to fix this would be to get a chunk of sheet metal bent it to fit over the mounting hole and rivet it to the door then bolt the handle to it.

Thanks for the help. When I was changing the door handle I guess the guy that had the bronco before me took a wire tie and straped the clip to the door. Which really didn't help just kept the clip form falling in the door.
