A friends truck got wrecked, long story, and basicaly the frame got cracked/bent slightly so it will be totalled. I whent over to check out the sway bar on it because he said I could have it if I wanted it.
Anyways the truck is a metallic brown '79 F-100 SWB, 302 2bbl, auto, 9". Anyways I look the sway bar is good but it only has a front sway bar and it appears to be factory. I opened the door to get the vin# and axle code and such and I look and the dang thing has a factory sport steering wheel! So I can have that too But none the less it appears original which is odd because the truck is a stripper model, it doesn't even have vents in the dash only the ones on the kick panel. I get home and run the numbers and yup the v8 is original, it has a 2.75 geared 9" BUT the trans is a C6. COuldn't you only get a C6 in the '79 F1/150 if you special ordered it as in a fleet? I am still unsure why anyone would get such a stripper w/ a front sway bar, sport wheel, 2.75 gears and a C6?
IS this really that odd or "rare" or is it just me?
Nick
It sounds pretty rare to me but I'm not that smart w/ all the options....I DO however know that most of the F-150s came w/ the c-6.......at least if it had a 351 or bigger......I'm not really sure about the 302 I'd imagine it would have come factory w/ a c4 but I dunno for sure
I can't say much about that truck, but thought I'd let you know that some 1979 F150's with a 302 did come with a C-6 from the factory. Mine did...have a look if you want in my gallery.
Cheers,
Lucky you, sport wheels are hard to come by. Some sport wheeled trucks had cruise on the blinker arm, does this one? If so, I like to see a pic of it...
Yeah - mine came with a C6, too. I couldn't really get an answer as to why it came with one as every other 302 I've seen has a C4. My truck has the sway bar which I believe was part of the handling package. The sport steering wheel was a stand alone option per the window sticker I have(I have only the options list part).

This past thread has a link to a sport steering wheel. It was an optional wheel that was rather rare. And even more rare was the sport wheel and factory cruise in the blinker switch.
Small block pattern C-6's are not rare. They came in thousands of E-250/350 cargo vans up thru the 80's behind a 300-6. You just have to know where to look
