Anyone know of any major differences between a '72 and '77 frame? As in how hard would it be to take a '72 body and put it on a '77 frame? Both being long wheel base and half ton trucks. The '72 is 2WD and '77 is 4WD.
i had a 72 F-250 4x4 that i rolled and i couldnt find a cab and clip for it so i had to go to the later years 73-9. the cab and front clip will bolt right up the box you will have to drill new holes for the mounts but its no big deal.
My 70 body(2wd) is sitting on a 74 4wd F250 Frame (73-77 are the same) . As mentioned the holes will have to be drilled about 1-1/2 inches(I think) forward on the frame for the bed to match up.
The cab rear mounts will also have to be redrilled, but there is already a spot marked on the cab floor for the new holes. The 2wd ones are inside the frame, and the 4wd are outside.
There were other minor changes like the steering column and cab floor tunnel(for transfer case shifter), but it's a relatively easy swap to do.
Thanks for the info guys. Now i'm trying to decide if it would be eaiser to swap bodies, or just the front axles, since i'm going to be putting a lift up front and cutting and welding up there anyway. Maybe it would be better to just swap out the front and rear axles, and tranny and transfer case.
