1993 steering problems
just want to know how to tell if a rack and pionon is bad old pump made noise now i know thay all do but on sat i did not put new one in froze up on tue put know one same day very quiet for one hour than problems started got very loud and right turns will shack whats up shoud i put old pump back in auto zone said racks bad i had know problem be for just a loud pump whats up with this 2 days of hell. pinto

Air in the system when you put the new pump in. Bleed it by:
1) Jack up the front and start the engine.
2) Turn the steering from one end to the other several times. Then let it sit for a while and do the same thing again. Keep doing it until the fluid in the reservoir is clean (without any air bubble). Also, check the reservoir periodically as you do this and make sure the pump does not run dry.
