i have an 82 f 100 with the 3.8 v 6 and every now and then while going down the road it just looses power and starts jumping just like it is running out of gas , mostly when it is raining, i have changed the dist. cap, plugs, wires and rotor button and have also converted the choke to a manual choke , if anyone has any other ideas please let me know this is really stumping me, truck has 124000 miles on it, thinking maybe i should just change the engine and go with a small block and an auto tranny, but would really like to be able to fix this one to last a while longer, thanks Kevin
I had the same problem in the past.
Have you replaced the fuel filter(s).
also I hade a vacume leak fixed and between the both truck ran a lot better.
Oh yea also replaces carb gasket.
I have this problem as well....whenever it rains, or there's a lot of fog. I'll be driving for half an hour, no problems, and then it'll start to run rough, jerk a bit. Sometimes I can drive through it and sometimes I can't and it dies. I'll try to start it up and it's really difficult to turn over. If I wait 20 minutes, it'll start up and run perfectly.
My mechanic told me to try changing the ignition module (moisture gets underneath it, or it gets too hot). I put in a new one with some extra washers to keep it cooler underneath, but the problem seems to persist. I haven't been able to drive it much since a druck rear-ended it 3 weeks ago....sigh...so I don't know if it really helped.
Good luck! (I think it's a problem with fords in general, as my friend from Ireland has a similar problem with some banger of a fiesta over there)
