engine swap

need to know if there is any difference between 1994 5.0 and 1990 5.0 L engines. will the ECM be the same? my 1990 is N.F.G and I can get a 1994 with 150,000k for $400.00 is this a decent price if engine is ok. Thanks

A '94 5.0 will have a roller cam. The roller cam requires a steel distributor gear instead of the iron gear on your 1990 distributor. Your '90 EEC should be fine with the stock roller cam.

My advice is to put the $400 towards a new engine or one with lower miles. I 'm not sure if you meant kilometers or miles, but either way the motor will require a valve grind and possibly rings/bearings. It really depends on whether you plan on keeping the truck for any length of time....

thanks for that. it has 150,000 kilometers on it. at this point this would be a poor mans fix. after looking into other alternatives, a rebuild= $1700.00plus. a used engine from the wreckers = 1000.00 and i can't consider a new one as it would be worth more than the vehicles value. so i have to take my chances.
